Kimber Mfg., Inc. a rapidly growing and leading manufacturer of fine sporting firearms with locations in AL, NY, NJ and MT has an immediate opening for an experienced Director of Manufacturing located in Troy, Alabama. In this role, the successful candidate will lead growing multi-site manufacturing operations through a team of functional managers, supervisors and leads in all manufacturing locations.



Oversee staffing, scheduling of resources, and training for direct production employees to achieve business objectives.  Specifically, develop and execute manufacturing operating plans to achieve safety, quality, delivery and cost (S, Q, D, C) metrics. Monitors and evaluates workflow and collaborates with functional departments to make a recommendation and implement process improvements with speed.  Own overall equipment effectiveness by driving enhanced quality improvements increases in cycle time performance and reduce downtime ultimately increasing equipment availability. Responsible for leading 200-300 employees across multi-shifts at multiple locations.

  • Lead strategic planning for the manufacturing organization in concert with senior leadership’s business plan development process.
  • At a factory level, develop and scale the manufacturing organizational structure, processes and metrics to accommodate rapid capacity expansion to increase through-put while improving productivity.
  • Provide direction and leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and floor engagement.
  • Direct the manufacturing policy deployment designed to transform the factories with the use of Lean Manufacturing techniques and tools that drive S, Q, D, C; customer and employee satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.
  • Provide leadership to create, improve, implement and ensure compliance with standards for Cost Control, Pollution Prevention, OSHA Compliance, and ATF Compliance.
  • Lead the development of synchronized manufacturing using lean technologies that balance workflow across multiple factory interdependencies.
  • Lead the development and implementation of staffing calculators in support of current production as it relates to man to machine coverage, one piece flow operations, and cellular manufacturing.  
  • In advance of new product launches, will develop staffing plans; improve existing staff utilization coupled with new talent acquisition.
  • Create and ensure adequate training to current and new staffing while implementing cross-training techniques and tools to maximize process coverage.
  • Lead Industrial, Manufacturing and Process Engineering Teams to identify continuous improvement opportunities, develop and implement change management plans and execute CI plans the deliver on business objectives and chart the course fir out years.  
  • Lead the implementation of the Kimber Operating System across multiple manufacturing locations that drive consistent use of tools that deliver upon S, Q, D, and C.


Minimum 15 years related manufacturing management including the following:

  • Machining Operations: High precision, high-tech and low tolerance discrete parts metal cutting manufacturing environments.
  • Assembly and Finishing Operations:  Lead and/or had direct control and/or experience overseeing assembly operations coupled with finishing operations that included but not limited to paint, surface treatment, polishing, as well as deburring.  
  • Six Sigma Green Belt required; Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Experience with MIM a plus.
  • Rapid Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques / Tools.
  • Technical skills in modern metal cutting, finishing, and assembly techniques.
  • Leadership: A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Planning: Ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-6 month time span.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent project and program management skills.
  • Quality Planning, control, and improvement proficient.
  • Computer / MS Office proficient.


Required:  BSME Preferred:  MSE/MBA
