AIDT is seeking applicants for a pre-employment training program for Composite Workers (Layup and Assembly) at GKN Aerospace in Tallassee, Alabama. The Tallassee facility, located about 35 miles from Montgomery, Alabama, has been in operation since 1985 and employs over 1,000 people, producing composite aerostructures for major OEM aerospace industry partners.




As a Composite Worker, you will follow standard work instructions and general instructions as part of a team to produce prototype and/or production composite parts, components and assemblies. You will be part of a team that is accountable for your cell's performance. Working alongside engineering and quality professionals, you will help develop techniques, tooling and/or methods to ensure the safety, quality and integrity of the parts we build. This role is an entry role into our advanced roles, such as inspection, and team coach.


  • Use hand, power and machine tools to facilitate preparation, cleaning and manufacturing processes of molds, equipment, parts, assemblies, or machinery.
  • Follow standard and/or prototype operating procedures to cut, assemble, shape, bond, lay-up, inject, cure, braid, weave, sew, trim and make simple/complex repairs to composite parts, components and assemblies.
  • Use simple inspection devices to assure quality of operations processes performed.
  • Perform other assignments and tasks as directed.


  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and follow written and verbal work instructions; demonstrated ability to recognize discrepancies in materials or processes required.
  • Capable of performing a wide range of physical activities, including standing for long periods and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Knowledge of basic shop math, including addition, subtraction, decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to work from sketches and use simple measuring instruments, such as tape measures or micrometers.
  • Team player, able to work in a repetitive production environment with safety as the first priority ALWAYS.
  • Will be personally measured for quality of workmanship, efficiency.
  • Depending on the area, you will be required to wear PPE, including safety shoes, eye protection, gloves and potentially hair nets, ear protection, or dusk masks.
