Martinrea is seeking applicants for a Chemical Process Engineer at their facility in TUSCALOOSA, Alabama. Martinrea is a diversified global automotive supplier engaged in the design, development and manufacturing of metal parts, assemblies and modules, complex fluid management systems and aluminum products.


CHEMICAL PROCESS ENGINEER

SALARY: $70K - $85K

BASED ON EXPERIENCE 



JOB DUTIES:

  • Ability to work independently and draw from experience in all aspect of the job assigned
  • Work closely with Project Management Team to support new product launches, engineering changes implementation and product / process continuous improvement initiatives and related activities.
  • Participate in APQP meetings being responsible to provide manufacturing process related deliverables
  • Responsible to provide estimates on tooling, special purpose gauges/ fixtures, cycle times and capital
  • Responsible for manufacturing processes, equipment, fixtures and tooling design and development
  • Responsible to define and implement error proofing
  • Tooling and equipment sourcing, development, progress tracking and validation as required
  • Trouble shoot process/equipment related issues and fine tune process to eliminate process-induced defects
  • Responsible to initiate and update as appropriate Process Flow Charts and PFMEAs
  • Responsible to initiate and maintain Standardized Job / Operator Instructions, Set-up Instructions and Re-work Instructions as needed
  • Assess and improve ergonomics
  • Conduct time studies, identify capacity constraints and opportunities to improve efficiencies and to reduce manufacturing costs
  • Ensure manufacturing and assembly processes comply with health, safety and environmental legislation, practices and procedures
  • Responsible to protect own health and safety by working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures
  • Initiate cost reductions ideas and/or quality improvement measures. Supports the QA department when required with customer concerns and corrective actions.
  • Support Preventative Maintenance Program development for all manufacturing process equipment
  • Experience with and knowledge of pH buffers, conductivity solutions and ability to calibrate and interpret associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of Alkaline cleaning, Pickle cleaning, phosphate and E-coating processes.
  • Knowledge of waste treatment processes.
  • Ability to titrate and understand results and understand the actions required to correct any out of parameter results.
  • The ability to teach paint techs the above information and constantly interpret and verify that the information is correct.
  • Document and watch the trends of the daily results in an effort to be proactive rather than reactive to items out of parameter.
  • Make process improvements to the line for better control.
  • Manage the chemical and spare parts inventory levels.


REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • University degree in Chemical Engineering or Engineering Technology and/or 3 - 5 years of various manufacturing processes (painting, pre-treatment, waste water treatment, plating etc.) , in an automotive environment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Advanced MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook) knowledge
  • Knowledge in CAD : 3D Models, Drawings and GD&Ts an asset
