Ashton Lewis - Sullivan Lumber is seeking applicants for a Sawmill Electrical/Maintenance Technician located in NORTHPORT, AL. Ashton Lewis - Sullivan Lumber is a manufacturer of lumber products and distributor of building products servicing Do-It-Yourself retail home centers, pro dealers, and other retail building-related and industrial segments.





Sawmill Electrical/Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintenance, repair, installation, and modification of all sawmill equipment to safely maximize, uptime, quality, and productivity.


  • Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment: Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage tester.
  • Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools.
  • Tests malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as MACHINE REPAIRER, MAINTENANCE and TOOL MAKER, MAINTENANCE, to diagnose malfunction.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices, using hand tools.
  • Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
  • May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.


  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance
  • Able to read and understand drawings
  • Possess basic understanding in alignment of pumps, sheaves, sprockets, and machine centers
  • Must be able to move equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks
  • Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools
  • Align machines and equipment using hoist, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
  • Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts
  • Able to perform effective Preventive Maintenance inspections
  • Must have welding experience
  • Must have cutting torch experience
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Solid background in heavy industry or construction
  • Knowledge of lumber manufacturing process is an asset as well as experience in equipment reliability.
  • Hydraulic troubleshooting a plus
  • Electrician’s license not required.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and post job offer background check
